The legend of Džiugas the Giant

Džiugas was a very strong and powerful man with a giant’s build. With the help of good spirits, he could pluck up whole trees with remarkable ease or defeat crusaders, single-handedly knocking down countless squads with his iron cudgel.

While still alive, Džiugas erected a barrow where he was later buried.

Legends prohibit the mining of Džiugas Hill. Once, however, a daredevil showed up who decided to break this prohibition. An unexpected and terrible storm sent the miners flying to the other side of the marsh. At night, the owner of the hill had a dream in which Džiugas the Giant threatened to rain grave misfortunes upon anyone who dared to touch the mountain again.
